Forty years ago he tried to kill himself… Today he’s going back to change his mind.
THE ROSE is an independent short film written by Dan Yakimchuk and directed by Kenn Crawford. Elder (played by Yakimchuk) travels back in time to meet his younger self (Aidan Lee-Dadswell) during a pivotal moment in his life.
The Rose also stars Ida Donovan (New Waterford Girl, Margaret’s Museum, The Battle Within) and newcomer Andrew Parland.
Filmed in Sydney and Glace Bay, The Rose premiered at the McConnell Regional Library on Thursday, February 1st, 2018. A panel discussion followed the screening that featured the writer and producer, Dan Yakimchuk, the director Kenn Crawford, co-star Aidan Lee-Dadswell, and was hosted by Professor Michael G. MacDonald of Cape Breton University.
The premiere was a huge success and was standing room only. The library ran out of chairs to seat people and many gathered along the walls to watch the film.
Support materials on youth mental health issues were made available by the McConnell Library, and a draw was held for the novel TH1RTEEN R3ASONS WHY by Jay Asher. The book was graciously donated by the McConnell Library and was won by Eddie Donovan.
Yakimchuk and Crawford are making arrangements to hold a second screening in Glace Bay. Bookmark this page for updates on the second screening.
